Exotic Estonia

While Estonia is not exactly one of the most common European travel destinations, it does offer a lot of attractions that are at par with some of the most popular vacation spots in the world. Located in the Baltic Region at the northern tip of Europe, this country is well known for its rich language, good food and unique travel treats. Its history dates back to more than ten thousand years ago. Over the centuries, it has been under the rule of different European nations including the Danish, Teutonic, Swedish and Russian empires. This may have attributed to the unique culture that Estonia is well known for.

The country is one of the least populous ones in the European Union with more than a million inhabitants. Curiously, its population is also diverse in that there are a lot of other ethnic groups that have already settled in the area. Together with native Estonians, the country is also home to a large group of Russians, some Ukranians, Finnish and Polish to name a few. For such a small country, Estonia does have a way to keep all these different people feel like they have lived in the area for a long time.

Many tourists recommend the late spring and summer season as the best times to visit Estonia. The country also features various ski resorts so it is also known to receive quite a number of guests during the winter. But if you really want to explore the whole country and witness major festivals happening all around the place, you will want to come over in July and August.

Estonia observes major Christian holidays and other international events such as Christmas and Easter. During your stay, you will want to witness a couple of the country’s best-known traditions. Historical tours are quite popular in the area especially since Estonia is made of breathtaking natural sceneries and various interesting architectural masterpieces particularly in the city.

For a culinary treat, you shouldn’t pass the chance to sample the country’s local delicacies. Estonian food, which was developed in the countryside, is a fare typically composed of pork, potatoes and other fresh garden vegetables. Its delicacies are mainly influenced by the Germans who were one of the many nations who once ruled the country. These days, restaurants and other eating spots in the country have started developing different variations of their simple delicacies.

For such a small country, Estonia sure does offer a lot of attractions to its guests. Two of its well-known tourist destinations are part of UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. The historic town of Tallinn which is popular for its influences on Estonian culture is also the center of trade in the country. Also known as the country’s capital city, Tallinn was added to the World Heritage Sites’ list in 1997.

From laid-back historic tours to sports attractions and unique travel adventures, Estonia is out to prove the world that it does offer something different to world-weary tourists who feel that they have already seen it all.
