Vacation capital of France

Situated on the coast of the Mediterranean, the city of Nice (France) is close to the sea which makes it a hit to tourists, young and old alike.

The city is known for its numerous promenades as it is a city by the sea. One which is frequented by many tourists is the Promenade des Anglais, Promenade of the English when translated in the American language. The city is also famous for its squares. Place Massena is one of the most celebrated squares in Nice (France). Surrounding the square are buildings whose architectural style has been influenced by the Italians. These buildings are noticeable due to their brick red colour. Public events are held at squares and it’s not strange to find parties and concerts held in this particular square, the Place Massena.

Another tourist hotspot is the square, Place Garibaldi. A statue of the central figure of Nice’s move for unification with that of Italy’s, Giuseppe Garibaldi, is situated at the center of the square. The square was also named after the same celebrated historical figure, Garibaldi.

For flower markets, music and entertainment, as well as good food, the place to be is Cours Saleya. It is a favourite of the visiting individuals because of its markets and sumptuous Nicois cuisines. There are also pubs in the square for those who want to have a good time while there and dine with and meet some of the friendly locals.

The city clock can be found in another of Nice (France)’s squares, Place dy Palais. Most of the building structures, establishment found in the squares are Nice’s courts of laws but even so, it is popular with the young. One of the places frequented by the youth in Place dy Palais is the steps that lead to Palais de justice. It is there that they often drink and be merry, as the age-old adage goes.

Nice has its own observatory, the Observatoire de Nice which can be found at the peak of Mont Gros. Although it the observatory doesn’t anymore exist, the place is still accessible for those who want to see the main dome designed by the celebrated French architects, Charles Garnier and Gustave Eiffel.

The city of Cannes is a neighbour of Nice (France) and is easily accessible from there. The next time you go down to Cannes, drop by Nice, too.
