Berlin and Sophistication

Being one of UNESCO’s City of Design, Berlin, has numerous offerings for both Germans and aliens. The city is generally appreciated for the cultural institutions that are within its direct vicinity. In fact, it is considered as the one of the most hospitable home for the arts. The city has one of the largest numbers of art galleries in the world. In relation to this, the international visual art fair, the Art Forum is held annually in Berlin. Even the largest European music convention, the Popkomm, has been transferred there from Cologne.

Competing with Madrid, Spain, Berlin has one of Europe’s most animated nightlife scenes. This is especially true in Mitte where famous clubs like the Kunst Haus Tacheles, Tressor, WMF, Ufo, E-Werk, Kitkatclub, Berghain and the Linientreu are all based.

When one opts for a taste of high art, Berlin offers a lot of museums and galleries to visit. In fact, the city has a World Heritage Site called the Museum Island. True to its name, the district is exclusively for the arts and antiques. Among the notable museums include the Old Museum or the Altes in Lustgarten. The famous bust of the Eyptian Queen, Nefertiti can be found there. Other museums like the New or Neues, Old National Gallery or Alte Nationalgalerie and the Pergamon and Bode Museums are also in the island.

Outside of the Museum Island, there are still other prominent museums like the Painting Gallery or the Gemäldegalerie, the New National Gallery or Neue Nationalgalerie, the Hemburger Bahnhof, the Deutsches Historiches and the Bauhaus Archiv museums. All of these museums have their individual collections of differing areas. The Gemäldegalerie is a 13th to 18th century visual art gallery. The Neue Nationalgalerie focuses on the 20th century European art. The Hamburger Bahnhof holds a vast collection of both modern and contemporary arts. The Deutsches Historiches exhibits anything historically linked to the history of Germany up until the 1989 fall of the Wall in Berlin. Finally, the Bauhaus Archiv holds an architectural collection.

Other than the numerous museums and galleries, Berlin also offers a taste of nature within its metropolitan area. There are zoos like the Zoologischer Garten Berlin, the oldest zoo in Berlin, and Tierpark Friedrichsfelde, the largest European zoo in terms of area. There are also parks like the Berlin Botanischer Garden or the Botanical Garden of Berlin, the Tiergarten or the Animal Garden, the Viktoriapark and the Treptower Park.
