Zurich: A Meeting of Nature and Progress
Switzerland takes its place as one of the most popular countries in the whole of Europe. For one, it is home to the rare cohabitation of nature and development. This is pretty much evident in the environmental consciousness of the Swiss from their historical and aesthetic edifices to their factories. Among the places in the Swiss Confederation that display this exceptional and noteworthy fact is Zurich that can be found at the head of the Lake of Zurich within the Swiss Canton of the same name. Although it is the largest and the most industrialized city in Switzerland, it still remains to be environment friendly given that all of the processing and assembling factories are all ran by electricity.
The main points of interest in Zurich include their economic and philosophical prowess. For one, the city is actually the sole provider of 1/5 of Switzerland’s entire budget. Yet more significantly, the city, specifically in Bahnhofstasse, is home to five major international banks.
Zurich is a major attraction in itself. One may see the entire city central, in both day and nighttime from Waid and Üetliberg. Within the city, there rare several historic edifices worth seeing like the St. Peter Church and its famous clock and other churches such as the Great Minister or Grossmünster in Schweizerdeutsch, a variation of the German language and the Lady’s Minisater or the Fraumünster.
One may also opt to take walks along the quays of the Limmat River and the Lake of Zurich. Same as in Geneva and its lake, there are ferryboats that accommodate tourists who would like to sail across their own lake.
Yet, what makes Zurich stand out from the rest of Switzerland’s cities and cantons are the numerous museums. The Museum Bärengasse holds the 17th century artifacts of the city. One of the largest collections of Classic Modern Art can be found at the Kunsthaus Zürich. The Museum Rietberg houses the artistic products of the all the non-European continents. The haute de couture, design and architectural museum is the Museum Bellerive. The avant-garde art collections are housed at the Migros Museum while architectural artistic designs are displayed at the Haus Konstruktiv. Cultural museums like the Johann Jacobs Museum and the North American Native Museum. Finally, There’s the Landesmuseum or the Swiss National Museum.
In some, Zurich has a bit of every possible thing that one may look for in an tourist destination.
